Inside the Classroom

January 6th - 10th

Social Studies
This week we are starting our unit on American History. We've already learned about the Pilgrims coming to the New World, we'ved talked about creating the colonies, and how to create a safe place to live. We learned about the constitution and how it helps us solve disagreements - we decided to make our very own Classroom Constitution to use as a resource to help us solve problems we face in the clasroom.

Next week we will be learning about our Rights and Laws and the start of the Civil Rights Movement.

Math
We are continuing our learning of comparing numbers and counting to 100. We also started counting by 2's and 10's. We just started learning how to decompose numbers ie. (5=2 objects + 3 more objects).

Reading
We have made a lot of growth in knowing our letter sounds. We are working on blends ie. st, dr, ch, etc. We have also started trying to create our own 3 letter words. Those words are CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant words - pig, dog, man).

Writing
We are focusing on verbs and creating full sentences. They are practicing using a capital at the beginning of the sentence and using a period at the end of the sentence.

Community - Social Skills
We have started our Superflex Unit. Superflex is a Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum that uses a fun, motivating, non-threatening way for students to explore social thinking while increasing their knowledge of social expectations, their awareness of their own behavior and how their behavior effects others, and how to modify their behaviors with Superflex Strategies. Check the Home Connection Page for 1/10/14 for some Superflex Resources.
